Bower Gardens began with two friends who share a deep appreciation for Australia's natural world.
Matt and Kosta, the founders of Bower Gardens, have been close friends since they were students in high school. During these younger years, they both developed a passion for the mountains, bush, snow, and all things adventure and the great outdoors.
Kosta Powell, our Construction Director, initially honed his skills in the culinary world. He worked his way up in the fine dining, upscale kitchen of Rockpool Bar and Grill, as well as managing multiple restaurants while living abroad in British Columbia.
It was time to hang up his apron, as life in the culinary world left Kosta with a longing from the great outdoors. With this new found passion for gardens, he honed his craft in outdoor construction at Spirit Level Designs. He brings a wealth of expertise and an eye for unique materials and organic forms and his true joy lies in crafting beauty from raw materials and bringing ideas to fruition.
Matt King is Bower Gardens' Creative Director. He has a passion for art and design as well as many years of experience in construction and horticulture. Matt first began his studies with a Diploma in Design at Sydney Design School, whilst furthering his skills as a builder's assistant. He then pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the College Of Fine Arts (UNSW) while managing a studio for sculptural artist Jamie North. Matt went on to complete his trade certificate (Cert III) in Structural Landscaping while gaining experience in landscape construction with Spirit Level Designs.
Matt has a keen eye for sculptural form, texture and natural colour pallete combinations.
